How well is your office organized? And if you are the head of the company, do you feel clear and confident while in your business space?

Looking good behind your back
Knowing how your working space is connected to your business success can save you a considerable amount of time spent in frustration, low energy and conflicts.
The truth that everything is energy comes from physics, so it should make it easier for you to understand, or at least accept, some of the main feng shui concepts to improve your business performance.
The very basics you should follow in your office, especially if you are a decision-maker, are the following:
|
 "Have you ever been too busy driving to fill up with gas?"
(Stephen R. Covey) |
1. Never sit with your back to the door;
2. Have good backing, i.e. solid wall behind your back versus a window;
3. Face one of your Success directions (based on your birthdata, this is the energy that is most productive to you.)
On a more advanced level, each area of your office is related to a certain area of your life & business. For example, the South area of your office space is related to your company's Fame and Reputation and the energy of it is Fire; so if you happen to have a deep blue feature wall in the South (or a washroom!); you would know why the energy is working against you every time you try to succeed and be seen and appreciated for what you do.
The word "feng shui" may have many stereotypes attached to it, but if you take the time to understand this ancient body of knowledge, you will be amazed at what it can do for you. It is not about positioning the three legged toads, windchimes and faceted lead crystals, it is powerful energy work - acupuncture for the space - to release and cultivate the most beneficial for you energies.

The BIG W Word: WELLNESS
| Workplace Wellness is a serious issue. Even David Granirer, North America's Psychotherapist and Stand-up Comic makes no jokes about it.
Keeping people happy, healthy and productive makes a lot of business sense even for companies that, unfortunately, will not care otherwise. Hundreds of studies document the direct and indirect effects of Healthy Work Spaces, including higher job satisfaction, lower absenteeism and turnover, improved job performance, lower accident rates, as well as reduced health benefit and worker compensation costs. |
 "Make the space to be best for them, so that they can be the best they can be."
(Mark Kaiser, strategy advisor to CEOs)
|
Either you are working by yourself or heading a big corporation, the same principles will apply as directed to creating a space that will strengthen people's health and sense of well-being. There are many ways to show your employees (and clients!) that you care, and creating a healthy, vibrant and welcoming space is one of the best ways to do it.
Working in a space that has low energy is not only unhealthy, it can go against yours and your employees' best efforts to succeed (that is, if you still have the energy to do your best where working in an unhealthy environment!)
Start with priorities we most often miss: Quality of Air and Quality of Light. Workspace organization. Visual images. Sensory experience. I bet you are much more productive when there is a warm smell of coffee in the air, rather than clorox. And when the first thing you see when coming into your office is a big vibrant image of a beautiful city, and not that old tilted trash can that has been there for ages. It can be moved, you know. But you get the idea.

Healthy YOUniverse: Nighttime Stories
Sleep is one of the strongest human needs. For your body to function at its best you need to know how to let it replenish, regenerate and re-energize itself.
“Your power is proportional to your ability to relax,” writes David Allen in Getting Things Done. We all know that well rested people are happy, energetic, enthusiastic and productive. Does that sound like the type of people you would like to have around you while working?
|
 ""What is going on? I have never seen, heard, read about, or experienced another country in the world in which sleep is not sacred, and blinds are not an essential part of a house." (B. Zivkovic, scientist)
|
No one likes a grump except another grump (and I know you are not one!) so here are simple steps you can take to get a better sleep:
1. Realize that adequate sleep is not only a priority, but a necessity.
2. Focus on your bedroom as one of the main areas in your house.
3. Limit the electric appliances and synthetic materials where you sleep because they deplete your body of energy.
4. Make an effort to re-create your bedroom into a relaxed environment, as it may be the only space where you replenish yourself.
5. Leave work out of your bedroom! This refers to work equipment, literature, anything that reminds you of work. Your body and mind need a break from it, at least so that you can have more "Aha!" moments when coming back to work!
Make sure you take good care of yourself and encourage your colleagues and employees to do the same. Sleeping one hour less each night might lengthen your day; but it could also shorten your life.
