All marketing definitions aside, when it comes down to basics, marketing is the way you present your business in images/colors/words/associations, etc. In other words, it is the quality of energy you use to convey your identity. Your website speaks of your energy, your print materials, your business environment, the colors you use in the logo design, etc, etc. Your potential customers will connect to you, first and foremost, on a subconscious, as well as emotional level, which are often much stronger than all the facts and figures you might use to persuade them to do business with you.
How good are you at being clear and successful with your marketing efforts? Does your marketing work for you? Do you know the image you are projecting? Whether aware of it or not, you can do considerably better when conscious of the energy/messages you are sending out with your marketing efforts. Here are some very basic feng shui guidelines to consider:
1. Use color strategically. Define and thoughtfully convey the energy you want people to feel about you/associate with you and your services and products. If you own a spa, you will do best by avoiding Yang/active/Fire colors (such as Red, Purple, or Orange); if you own a pizza place, you will definetely avoid Green, etc, etc. In marketing, colors and shapes are often more powerful in their impact than the words.
2.Your website is your 24/7 messenger that works either for or against you. Be aware of the flow of info on your site, as well as the WIIFMF ("What's In It For Me Factor"); do not waste users' precious time and maximize the chances of them coming back - be clear, concise and specific as to who you are and what you offer. Be very mindful of the images and colors you use, as well as, of course, the site navigation.
3. If you are in a business where clients come to see you (be it an office, showroom or retail store) be mindful of the message your environment is sending. Your business space is a very powerful marketing tool. If you are in the financial services industry, you better give a good sense of security with a high quality furniture, ample space, colors and images. And if you own a restaurant that you actively promote, but your washrooms are a nightmare and to get there I have to see all the ins and outs of a kitchen, consider your marketing money well-wasted. To develop trust from customers, you have to be consistent in your communication efforts on all levels (digital, print, and environmental.) This will translate into strengthening the energy of integrity, which is essential in establishing a successful business relationship.::
