The Metrics of Wellness
There is an outstanding research center/idea fun factory in Stanford, CT called the Merlin Center (very appropriate name!) and the goal of it is to turn hard-boiled executives in the banking industry into wide-eyed children eager to explore and to ask questions. The expected result of it is a totally new and fresh approach to doing business.
Are you exploring and asking questions? Are you looking for a fresh approach: to your work and to your well-being? How well does your business do? And which metrics do you look at?
What keeps you motivated and inspired?
This issue we are looking at several resources to keep work-related stress at bay; we consider the elements of the first impression and explore more ways to strengthen your sense of well-being, as well as business success, by fostering the flow of energy at work.
Make something happen. Start now. It's good for You.
Have fun exploring the possibilities!

Expectations vs Reality: Are You Burning Out?
You worked hard to get where you are but the sense of career dissatisfaction and a strange sense of loss is becoming harder to neglect. The demands on your time are intense, and you are sure this is how success comes - with a high level of stress close to burnout. Does it have to, though? And is that what you were looking for when building your career or your business?
The clash between what you thought life will be when you are successful and what it really is can be a major cause of burnout, and even create a sense of loss. Is it because you achieved all you were told, or programmed to achieve, rather than looking deeply at what really satisfies your inner hunger for deep personal fulfillment? Understanding how Chi, or energy works, and how it is connected to the quality of your life is priceless knowledge, and I am ready to share with you many powerful, transformative tools in a hands-on, creative and inspiring setting.

That first perfect minute
Do you make a perfect first impression? What is the message the customers receive the very first minute they walk into the door? How closed or open is your organization?
Recently I found out about a very interesting company, called 1800GOTJUNK. It is based in Vancouver, Canada and expanding rapidly, having an already strong international presence. What impressed me the most is the openness of it, as well as the enthusiasm and energy of people working there.

"
That first perfect minute is what gives you the chance to have a second and third perfect minute with that customer -- and to create a perfect experience." (B.Steele)

Every weekday morning at 10:54 a.m. they have the so-called "Huddle Time" - a 7 min (yes, just 7 min, I watched the time!) company-wide meeting where each department shares good news, metrics, and financial results. It is an open company with no separate offices and a young, vibrant spirit that got them the #1 Award in the Best Companies to Work For In BC.
I wish I can continue the list with more successful and inspiring stories. However, there are many more businesses we see daily where the moment you come in you want to turn back and run away. Or maybe just stay a bit and wonder what magic tools they use to stay in business. You can always sense the energy of the company, take its pulse, so to speak, at the main entrance. If you won't, your body will! Just ask it. The range of main entrances that keep surprising me is long and will make for an interesting collection - from color starved ones to the "no fresh-air" zoned spaces.
Below are just three main reasons why you should be very aware of your main business entrance:
1. The state of your main entrance will determine the way Chi, or universal energy, is flowing (or not!) into your space. You need a balanced, strong and vibrant flow of energy to do well.
2. No matter what business you are in, you probably have at least someone coming to visit you. What is the impresson you put out?
3. If you have employees working for you, your main entrance will, on a deep subconscious level, set their energy level for the day, as well as subtly determine their attitude towards the company.
Feng Shui-wise, you would always benefit from a well-lit Main Entrance with lights focused on your Company Name placed high and firm on the wall (not on the doormat, desk or chairs/tables/shelves), a gentle flow of energy (no attacking, sharp corners pointing at visitors!) and yang/warm colors to welcome the energy/people/growth and success.
And, by the way, if one of your business' first impression includes an overwhelming amount of objects with no purpose or meaning, give it an honest identity - junk - and call the guys at 1800GOTJUNK to come and remove it for you!
THEY will do it in a fast and efficient manner, leaving you that first perfect impression of a successful company and YOU will end up with a fresh space that welcomes strong, vital Chi, or energy. Just the one you need to strengthen your well-being and clear the way to success!

The Beauty and the Beach
The goal of feng shui is to attract and maximize the flow of fresh, strong and vital Chi to circulate in your environment; to bring the outside in, so to speak. Think of the quality of energy you experience during a nice walk at the beach and see what you can do to invite this energy into your Home or Business space.
Natural light, as well as high levels of Oxygen, are essential in maintaining the good circulation of Chi. Here is a basic checklist to always be aware of, as well as some suggestions:
1. Quality of Air. Check the list of air-purifying plants (as defined by NASA research) and bring them on!
|
"Our own physical body possesses a wisdom which we who inhabit the body lack. We give it orders which make no sense." ( Henry Miller)
|
2. Quality of Light. Consider investing in full-spectrum lighting for the sake of your health and productivity. Read the article on light
3. Freshness of Energy that surrounds you. Ask you body often for the feedback on this one. Trust the response; it has your best interests at heart. Let go of things that do not serve you anymore and make space for New, Vibrant and Fresh. To get some help, read books on clutter clearing and space clearing.
You deserve to be healthy, joyful and successful. Go for it.
