Today's Quote:

"Your home is a living, breathing entity with a soul. To assist the flow of energy and movement in your home (just as in your own self) , it is important to look after the well-being of that soul. Our minds, bodies and spirits need to be cared for and constantly nurtured to maintain good health.

Similarly, our homes will benefit from: a regular routine of cleansing and tidying for good physical order, de-cluttering and re-arranging to maintain a clear and balanced interior composition; and, to keep the spirit of the home alive and whole, a continuous flow of energy and movement."
(Ou Baholyodhin, acclaimed interior designer)

SLOW DOWN AND CELEBRATE

Time to warm up your home for the cold season! We are spending more time indoors, and we need warmth on all levels, as well as the feeling of coziness and comfort. Bring warm, rich colors into your space with new textures, fabrics and décor elements.

In the language of feng shui, what you need to do in the colder season is to balance your environment with fire energy. You can bring this vital energy in your environment in many ways - with décor objects, new throws, pillows, images, maybe a wall color - be creative and have fun with it. Your whole being needs more warmth now and your environment has to support it. Our guide to colors will help you chose the best one to suit your needs and bring instant warmth into your space.

Some easy changes like a different, richer looking area rug, some cozy floor cushions, brightly colored throws, maybe different color lamp shades, new candles will quickly shift the energy of your space and convey to your body the feeling of warmth and "cocooning."

Add earthy, warm elements to your kitchen and your bedrooms, the two places we tend to spend more time in winter and that tend to be overlooked as most of the efforts go to the living room and the main entrance.

Even if you are not an avid re-decorator and do not like to change things much around your place, you should consider doing minimal changes in your space at least twice a year - for the fall/winter and for the spring/summer seasons. Your body has different energy needs at different times that need to be fulfilled by your environment. As usual, do not forget to move things around a bit in order to re-fresh the energy flow.

Most importantly, though, do not perceive it as one more thing you "have to" do. Make it a fun project and enjoy it, as the energy you put into it will reflect in your environment and be felt by you, as well as by the people who visit you.

Place some rose quartz crystals in the heart of the home, keep the main entrance clear of clutter, lighten up your space with beautiful candles and don't forget to slow down and really celebrate! Celebrate the season, the beautiful people in your life, and all your everyday blessings. Last, but certainly not least, celebrate yourself - your dreams, your victories, your moments of joy, and even those of sadness and despair, as all of them created this wondrous and unique being that you are.

Have a beautiful and meaningful holiday season!

Fire has always been a symbol of divine energy and can be both destructive and creative. It represents the energy of sun and life. A balanced Fire Element in your home will bring joy, excitement and sexual desire.

Red color arouses. It is hot, passionate, rich and celebratory. It is the Chinese color of luck and happiness, the marriage color in India, the symbolic color of love and romance, courage and passion in the West. In decoration Red always signifies richness and luxury.

If used too much, though, it can bring restlessness, burst of anger and over stimulation.
Better use it with caution, always easier to bring Red with details and accessories, rather than with furnishings or wall color. Use with most moderation in children's rooms, freely in the living room and dining/kitchen. Limit Red in the East and South East areas of your Home, as well as the West. Excellent in the South.

"In a serene, welcoming home environment our spirits are naturally lifted and our minds are freed from the oppressive rule of negative thought."

Yellow color wakes up the room like the rising sun. The color of sunlight, cheerful and uplifting Yellow always lightens and brightens any space, as well as creates a cozy, welcoming feeling. From hot sunflower Yellow to pale buttery tones - there are many options to choose from.

Any dull, dark room with little sunlight will greatly benefit from a Yellow based scheme to compensate for the lack of light and bring the gentle warmth of the sun. Yellow brings the energy of Fire in a gentler way than Red; it is the most enchanting of all colors, as well as easier to "live with" in bigger/larger quantities.

Use hot Yellow in moderation in the East and South East areas of your home.

"If you design with purity and tranquility in your heart, these qualities will resound throughout your living space and bring you peace."

FIRE ENERGY: ORANGE

When Red can be too intense in your space, go for Orange and Yellow colors instead. Orange is often called a "social" color, as it promotes lively conversations and good times. In the winter especially it reminds of summertime dreams, as well as resembles the cheerful flickering of deep and vibrant orange in log fires.

Combine it with some sharp lime or cool green and you have a fresh invigorating combination that will cheer you up, as well as bring an extra dimension of warmth and light during long chilly days.

The softness and warmth of Orange makes it a color easy to live with. At sunsets the light in Orange-themed rooms becomes beautifully golden and a view to behold!

FIRE ENERGY: PURPLE

Color Purple should be used with moderation. It is a very strong color, the color of connection to divine realms (7th chakra.)

Feng shui-wise, it is not recommended as a wall color. Many feng shui masters believe that color Purple on the wall (or an overwhelming amount of it in any environment) triggers blood disease. True or not, Purple is a very high vibration color and should be used with caution. The only place it can be used freely may be a healing room or a meditation space.

Use in moderation throughout your home or go for much lighter tones, like lavender. Limit it in the East and South east areas, as well as the West. An excellent way to bring the royal Purple in your environment is with Amethyst crystals.

ASK THE FENG SHUI CONSULTANT:

Question:

I have many stones in my home. Also stones within the fountain I created; in a small zen garden I made in a wooden tray; as well as in the bathroom basin. Where are stones auspicious in a flat and office? In what direction? What do they enhance? The stones are of all kinds, mostly picked in nature and river pebbles. Can you help? Thanks, Varda Ras de Miranda, Israel

Answer:

Dear Varda: Stones of all kind bring strong, grounding Earth energy, which we all need, especially if your birth element is Earth or Metal (You can check your birth element on our new website soon.) Then there are specific qualities/energies carried by specific stones or crystals (This info will also be available on the new site.) Where are they auspicious in a flat or office? In the West to support the Metal element of creativity and children's well-being; as well as SouthWest to strengthen the relationships and marriage area. Also good in the NorthEast (Self-Knowledge and Cultivation) I have some beautiful ocean rocks close to my laptop as they balance the energy/lower down the EMFs a bit, as well as remind me of a beautiful island I recently visited.

There is really no "wrong way" to place small rocks in your environment, as most interiors are starved for deeper connection to nature/stronger life force, and rocks can bring this into a home. As most of them carry a Zen-like simplicity, they also remind us about finding beauty in everyday encounters, as well as living here and now. To conclude, it may also be that you have a stronger need to feel grounded at this specific period in your life, thus bringing more stones and river pebbles into your environment helps you with grounding your own energy. Be sure to move them around from time to time, though.

Question:

Is it true that the painting, as well as the chandelier above the bed can negatively influence the couple's sexual life? Dorian Ciocanu, Moldova

Answer:

Dear Dorian: Very good question. First, everything in your bedroom affects your love life, as, you need beautiful, vibrant, as well as harmonious space for the sexual energy to keep flowing and not get blocked over time. This info mostly applies to couples that live together in the same space. A chandelier, as well as any light fixture above the bed is never a good idea, and the painting can have a negative influence only if it carries a negative energy, i.e. has sad, lonely images.

I remember recently watching a very good designer show that left me feeling sad and disappointed. That particular sequence was on re-designing a bedroom, which had a big and quite emotional painting of a lonely woman almost drowning in water. It had the energy of sorrow and the need to be alone. Although the painting was done quite beautifully, it felt sad seeing the designer re-creating the whole room around this painting, instead of taking a moment and sensing that this is no art to have in a couple's bedroom. One other design element (from the same segment) that should never be in the bedroom - a mirror facing the bed directly. Although, again, the mirror was very beautiful, big, with an elegant gold leafing frame, it was overwhelming close to one side of the bed, very inappropriate energy-wise and, regretfully, "working very hard" against that particular couple's harmony and sexual healing in that space.

So, to sum it all up, yes, the chandelier above the bed will negatively influence your well-being and sexual life in the bedroom, while a painting above the bed will only do that if it carries negative or inappropriate energy for a bedroom (ie. lonely images, aggressive, or sad, very dark color combinations, etc) Trust your inner responses when you choose bedroom decor elements and don't forget to ask for your body's feedback, as ultimately, the bedroom is the only space where your body can fully replenish and recharge from daily stress, as well as open up to a deep level of intimacy with another human being.
