Feng Shui for September & October: GET MOVING!!

September is the month with the energy of fruition - coming to a certain level of completion with your projects, ideas, relationships, etc. It is the month to get moving with new levels of energy and enthusiasm, as well as more clarity. Get moving towards something new - be it a new or renewed home, a new job, travel to new places, etc; and be sure to start in your own environment!

Whatever situation you are in, bring in some movement and change into your environment with color. Do not let it stagnate as this is the month of the "last chance", so to speak, to realize those New Year's resolutions, dreams and intentions!

The easiest way to get your life moving by using feng shui is to bring the energy of specific colors in order to achieve the results you want. Color is very powerful, as it is light, and many spaces are starved for light. Bring it on!

In Feng Shui, color energy represents a certain element, one of the five main elements - Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Every area of your space, just like every area of your body, has its own "meaning" or function / responsibility for the well being of the whole. Understanding, respecting it and knowing how to use color to strengthen and balance your environment may be a complex subject, but there are always basics to it!

For example, in terms of the body parts, the energy of the South is connected to your eyes/vision, and in terms of areas of life - to your Fame/Recognition. A better translation, actually is the "Light/Fire within" and it is connected to the image you project to other people, your identity in the eyes of others, as well as how good/strong you are at spreading and maintaining your own Light/Identity/Values.

The energy/element of the South is Fire, and the colors related to it are Red, Purple, Yellow and Orange. Obviously, you would not want to put down your own fire, which means you should not bring Blue or Black colors to the South area of your space. Please note I am not saying to get rid of any Black or Blue in your South area, as one of the ways to achieve balance is to have all five elements represented in your environment. However, there is always one element that should be emphasized over the other, so the goal is to be mindful about the predominant energy/color in specific areas of your space.

Color Green is excellent/very healing in improving health and balancing family life when used in the East; color Blue is very good in the North area to support/help you with your career plans or in the East (Health/Family) and Southeast (Prosperity/Abundance) to water/nourish the Wood element. Have some Yellow in the South for happy gathering and good times and some pure White in the West to support you in your creative endeavors.

Before bringing color into your environment, be sure to study the light patterns throughout the day in your space, as well as see how it works with the other "inhabitants" of your space, such as furniture pieces, decoration objects, art, etc. You would like all of them to have a good time, rather than arguing and fighting over your attention!

Color and Light - bring it ON! And, if it gets confusing - just ask!

Feng Shui for Children: BACK TO SCHOOL!

September is the back to school month, so it is a good time to check on your kids' rooms and see what can you do to enhance their well-being.

The backbone of any successful space is clear organization, so that each object has its own place and clutter is easily managed.

As far as the choice for main colors, I always suggest first looking up your child's birth element and see what colors are best to support/nourish his/her energy (see the "Ask a question" section for a situation where a child's room is completely unsupportive/putting him down. His mother contacted me as she was very upset with his aggressive behavior and emotional ups and downs.)

Two more important points for your child's room - the position of the Bed and the Desk.

THE BED: try not to have anything under it so that the energy circulates freely. Minimum electric appliances to lower dangerous EMF fields. Harmonious color of the bedding. Be sure it is not aligned with the door.

THE DESK: clearly organized; clean surface, vertical, rather than horizontal storage, not facing the wall, not with the back to the door.

Educate yourself as much as possible on the importance of good design for your child's well-being.

"For a person to feel happy or contended in a place requires more than just having material comfort. There must be a sense of completeness and security if material comforts are to be enjoyed. The attitude of people to their home is an all-important yet underestimated factor in this. Security for the residents comes only with a positive attitude to their dwelling place."

PROSPERITY area of your Space: how do you find it?

The area connected to you financial prosperity and abundance is the South East of your Space (be it home or office) The element of the South East is Wood, so be mindful about not placing Metal or Fire objects or colors in this area, as Metal cuts the Wood and Fire burns it.

To encourage the energy flow in this area, focus on strengthening the Wood element. Lush greenery, a source of water (actual or image, colors Blue, Green and Brown are all excellent feng shui solutions.)

Bring images that speak to you of abundance. If you decide to go for traditional Chinese feng shui cures, be sure that you really do like them, you have to have this energy exchange for them to work. Otherwise, choose your own. Examples of Chinese cures: Chinese coins, red tassels, three legged toad, images of ships in a harbour, koi fish, etc.

However, first and foremost - is there any clutter in this area? Or even a trash can? Little details speak a lot. Train your eye to see them!

How does this area feel? Does the energy easily escape thru many windows or a back door in this area? Or, maybe it is partially missing?
Here is a floor plan from a recent client, a young couple who moved to a charming home in the countryside. As you can see the Abundance area (Southeast of their floor plan) is mostly missing. Solutions in this case:
* have lush greenery outside, make it vibrant/alive
* install 4 lights (the feng shui number for the Southeast)
* hang a mirror indoors (in the SE) area to expand the space.

Ask a Feng Shui Consultant

I work with many images (in case of the free 6 months support for my clients as well as the on-line consultations.) Here is an illustration regarding the feng shui elements and specific areas of home/life.

The image below is one of the first views in one of my clients' home in Coquitlam, BC, as well as part of the Heart of their House. First impression is very important, and this one is obviously quite cold and "body - unfriendly", feels rigid and tense. The Area being the Heart of their space, it is also important to minimize the Metal element.

Here are some simple décor/feng shui solutions for this case:

==>>==>>

*paint the wall in a warm earthy color (the element of the center is earth),
*improve the lighting,
*place a big plant with round leaves in an earthy vessel,
*hang specific wall decoration the client had in another room with water energy to it.

Simple steps, huge difference!

* * * * *

Here is an inquiry from Victoria, Canada, were the young child was showing aggressive behavior towards his sibling, as well as the parents; had often emotional ups and downs. One quick look at the room and his birth data made it clear - the environment is completely unsupportive of him/puts him down energetically; so the child is struggling, to the best of his ability, to maintain his "sanity", so to speak.

==>>

Suggestions in this case:

* minimize color Blue in his environment;
* bring colors of his own element (Fire), as well of the supportive/nourishing element (Wood);
* to calm him down/ cool his temper, bring Earthy colors or objects; this will absorb his fiery energy in a constructive way, without putting him down;
* the mirror should never face the door, especially when the window is facing it, too (the reason for it: not enough energy to nourish the room)
* bunk beds, although convenient, not an ideal choice for children.
